Tele health Isn’t a Luxury — It’s a Necessity

Why We Must Protect the Future of Virtual Sleep Medicine

At Med2You, we believe in breaking down barriers to care—and right now, one of the most powerful tools we have to do that is under threat: tele health.

In February 2025, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) released a powerful position statement urging policymakers and healthcare systems to make tele health permanent. Why? Because during the COVID-19 pandemic, emergency waivers allowed tele health to flourish—and the results were extraordinary.

Patients who once had no access to sleep care due to distance, mobility, or other barriers were suddenly receiving high-quality treatment from the comfort of home. But these waivers are set to expire. Without legislative action, the very systems that expanded access during our country’s greatest healthcare challenge could soon vanish, leaving millions stranded without care.

Why Sleep Medicine and Telehealth Go Hand-in-Hand

Unlike many areas of healthcare, sleep medicine rarely requires a physical exam. Diagnoses are often made using sleep histories, diaries, and sleep study data—all of which can be reviewed remotely. For patients managing sleep apnea, our team at Med2You uses remote monitoring tools that track CPAP usage and effectiveness in real-time. This allows us to make adjustments and offer support—without the patient needing to come into an office.Even treatments for chronic insomnia (which affects over 12% of Americans) are well-suited to tele health. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I)—the gold standard treatment—can be delivered just as effectively through digital platforms as in person.

The Real-Life Benefits of Sleep Tele health

Let’s break it down:

  • Expanded Access

Whether you live in Georgia or simply can’t take time off work, tele health means expert sleep care is finally within reach. At Med2You, we treat patients all over the state and and across other states with just a phone call or video chat.

  • Health Equity

Not everyone has high-speed internet or a smartphone. That’s why we support audio-only tele health as a permanent option. Cutting it would hurt our most vulnerable communities—elderly patients, lower-income families, and rural residents.

  • Safety First

Many of our sleep patients are at higher risk for drowsy driving. Telehealth means they can get care without getting behind the wheel—protecting them and everyone on the road.

  • Cost Savings

Treating sleep apnea and other disorders early prevents expensive complications like heart disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes. And when you factor in reduced travel costs, fewer missed workdays, and lower no-show rates, tele health just makes sense—for patients, employers, and the healthcare system.

The Bottom Line

Rolling back tele health would be a devastating step backward. We must recognize that virtual care is no longer an experiment—it’s a vital part of modern medicine.

At Med2You, we’re standing firm in our commitment to telemedicine—especially for sleep care. Because everyone deserves rest. Everyone deserves access. And everyone deserves better.
